Filipino Educators

Organization of Filipino Educators in the South of Thailand

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon when the group of Filipino educators in Southern Thailand met at Songkhla province.

The educators from the province of Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala, had the biggest delegation, Songkhla the host and our group from Hatyai.

This was the first general assembly held at Samila beach, Songkhla. The program started at 1:00PM by registration of all delegates gathered on that day more or less 50 pinoy came.

There were many matters have been discussed like the ratification of the Constitution and By-laws, and followed by the Oath-Taking of Officers.

The dinner was superb! We brought food to share which everyone enjoyed.
The highlights of this gathering was the socialization. Each group showed their best in dancing, singing and acting.

It was fabulous because we able to met our 'kababayan'.
Congratulations to all new elected officers and the founder of this organization.

We hope and pray that our unity and trust would make this organization stronger and successful.

Mabuhay tayong lahat.

Ash Wednesday-Beginning of the Lent Season

Concerning the Penance to be observed during the season of lent.

So that our Catholic people will live their lives rightly according to the spirit of the Lenten season, we ask that all observe the following according to the spirit of the church.

1. According to the law of the church all Catholics are to do penance for their sins by their personal actions and by the practice of penance in common. Hence we are designating days of penance on which Catholics are to pray and practice works of mercy and show special love by their self-sacrifice and fidelity everywhere.
(Canon 1249)

2. Every Friday throughout the year and every day during Lent are days of penance everywhere.
(Canon 1250)

3. Every Friday throughout the year, except Fridays that are special feast days, are days of abstinence from meat or from some other food, according to what the Bishop's Conference has already prescribed; Ash Wednesday and god Friday are days of abstinence and fasting.
(Canon 1251)

4. All Catholics 14 years old and over are to abstain. All Catholics from the age of 18 until they have completed their 59th year are bound to fast.

5. It is the duty of pastors and parents to train the young who are not yet bound to fast and abstain to learn a spirit of penance.
(Canon 1252)

6. For the Church in Thailand, on the authority of Canon 1253 of the Canon Law of the Church, the Bishop's Conference has determined these ways of fasting and abstaining:

ABSTINENCE

Those who practice on or the other of these regulations are to be counted as truly abstaining:

a) Abstaining from meat.
b) Observe some pious practice apart from the usual Station of the Cross, Visiting the Blessed Sacrament, saying the Rosary.
c) Performing some work of mercy, such as giving alms to the poor, visiting the sick.
d) Giving up some food or thing we like to do, such as, not drinking whisky and beer, not smoking.
e) Learning how to refrain from things or doing without luxuries.

FASTING: means eating only one full meal.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

All these four years working in Hatyai I've never thought of watching movie in one of many movie theaters in this big city.
My friends persuade me to go with them many times but I always have an alibi as in I have no interest to watch movies.

The truth was my budget problem hehhehehe...

The day came, February 7, 2009 I decided to go with our movie goer friends; Dinah, Analyn, Javi and three of us (our first time to watch movie in Hatyai) Lydia, Olga and myself.

We watched the movie Underworld: Rise of the Lycans at Coliseum Cineplex Diana Hatyai it started at 19:15 PM.

For 90 baht and almost 2 hours movie, facing the big screen my eyes started complaining. I could not stay longer because of strong radiation and light effects that made me dizzy for sometime.

Anyway it was a nice experience, nice movie!

Valentines Day

February has been the month to celebrate love ever since the Middle Ages.

The common symbols of Valentine’s Day in this era are cupids, hearts, roses, teddy bears, and words of adoration.

Valentines Day is expressed in the current celebration of yummy chocolates, lovely cards, and sparkling engagement rings.

There are many versions how, where and when the Valentines Day originated.

The important thing is we express our love and care to someone who really is special to our life. To our parents, brothers and sisters, friends, neighbors, lovers and above all to our God.

My greetings to everyone, HAPPY HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Wish you all happiness.

Macha Bucha Day

Macha Bucha is a Buddhist holy day and marks a point in history when 1,250 of the Lord Buddha's followers gathered as if they had been notified by a simultaneous awareness, from widely separated areas to hear his sermon and without previous arrangement.

On Macha Bucha Day, a national holiday, Thai Buddhists throughout the country usually make merit by giving alms to monks and go to temples to listen to Dharma.

This is the most important Buddhist celebration as a holy Buddhist day. All government and private establishments are closed. Therefore we had a chance to relax and visit some of our friends.

This is a memorable day for all of us who visited Kuya Freedie and his wife Ate Evelyn at Songkhla. We knew each other at Saint Lourdes Catholic church here in Hatyai. They are regular church goers. Kuya Freddie is an engineer working in one of the oil companies based in Songkhla. They have three daughters who are now in the Philippines for their studies.

These are some of our photos taken in their house.

May God always be with you and more blessings to come.

Debut party

The debutante

January 31st, 1991 is the birthday of a cute and beautiful girl!. She is now grown up and has matured into a lovely lady. She is Siena and she quotes, "Once in a lifetime you turn 18, never again will this age be seen. I'm inviting you all to help make this event a memorable one".

I know it takes lot of time to plan this grand party. When I reached my eigthteenth birthday

I was far away from home ( was in Manila for studies) then I was just greeted by the staff, friends and they surprised me with a cake, some gifts and a lunch together at the refectory.

Actually, a debutante (debut or presentation ball) (from the French débutante, "female beginner") is a young lady from an aristocratic or upper class family who has reached the age of maturity, and as a new adult, is introduced to society at a formal presentation known as her "debut" or " coming out". Originally, it meant the young woman was eligible for marriage, and part of the purpose was to display her to eligible bachelors and their families with a view to marriage within a select upper class circle. This traditional event varies by region, but is typically
referred to as a "debutante ball" if it is for a group of debutantes. A lone debutante might have her own "coming-out party", or she might have a party with a sister or other close relative.

In the Philippines, this is an important event to all teenagers and very exciting when this time comes with the girl nearly turning 18.

So Siena got what she wanted..a grand party..! Everyone really enjoyed the party and wished her good. Hope she has matured enough to face all the challenges in her life as she begins the step of her own journey.

Study well and be good always!
God bless.
