Macha Bucha Day

Macha Bucha is a Buddhist holy day and marks a point in history when 1,250 of the Lord Buddha's followers gathered as if they had been notified by a simultaneous awareness, from widely separated areas to hear his sermon and without previous arrangement.

On Macha Bucha Day, a national holiday, Thai Buddhists throughout the country usually make merit by giving alms to monks and go to temples to listen to Dharma.

This is the most important Buddhist celebration as a holy Buddhist day. All government and private establishments are closed. Therefore we had a chance to relax and visit some of our friends.

This is a memorable day for all of us who visited Kuya Freedie and his wife Ate Evelyn at Songkhla. We knew each other at Saint Lourdes Catholic church here in Hatyai. They are regular church goers. Kuya Freddie is an engineer working in one of the oil companies based in Songkhla. They have three daughters who are now in the Philippines for their studies.

These are some of our photos taken in their house.

Happy Mother's Day !

Today is a very special day for all mothers in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Every year of August 12th Her Majesty Queen Sirikit celebrates her birthday.
In acknowledgement of this special occasion, this day is also recognized as National Mother's Day.
The day is also a national public holiday.
The day the Thai people express their love and gratitude to their mothers and to the women who mean a lot to them.
They offer floral garland or corsage made of fresh or handmade jasmine flower.
Jasmine flower symbolizes purity and selflessness representing a mother's unconditional love for her children.
